Comparing Top Diversity Sourcing Tools

Mon, 03/05/2018 - 08:00

I’ve been interested in diversity sourcing for many years now. I’ve helped build sourcing teams and have created sourcing strategies designed to address diversity challenges at several companies, including Fannie Mae, Starbucks, and Apple. Today, we have strong evidence that companies with diversity initiatives are more likely to outperform those without one. This is not surprising to me since the customer demographics in the US are becoming more diverse, and so diversity reach in the product, marketing, and sales teams will help drive success. For recruiting, this means an increasing need for pipelines of diverse, qualified talent.

Talent Pipeline Case Study — Nestlé Purina’s Reaches an Amazing 43 Percent of Hires

Mon, 03/05/2018 - 07:19

You might be surprised to learn that a talent pipeline strategy can yield a time to fill that can actually be zero days. If you’re not familiar with the concept, a talent pipeline recruiting strategy provides a tremendous competitive advantage because it allows your firm to fill positions almost immediately with higher-quality talent then you would normally get by using the typical just-in-time sourcing. This pipeline approach is called a “pre-need strategy” because the candidate sourcing starts before you have an immediate opening. And that means that rather than “chasing talent” under time pressure, you can take your time finding top candidates. And once they are found, you can then slowly and deliberately make a thorough candidate assessment and completely sell them on working for your firm.

Every successful relationship works via a careful process of give and take. We need to learn how to express ourselves, our ideas, and our interests. Equally, though, we need to really listen. Dear Littler: I am a senior HR manager at a mid-sized company. One of our female team members just reported her manager, a vice president, for inappropriate conduct. We Get the Sex and Lies, But Why HR?

Thu, 03/01/2018 - 12:31

When I first started in HR, no one knew who we were. Heck, we weren’t even HR back then. In 2005, popular business magazine Fast Company brought HR into the spotlight, in a not-so-gracious way, with a cover story stating Why We Hate HR. One of the more pithy comments was:

Wed, 02/28/2018 - 08:35

When it comes to mission and values, there are two ends of the spectrum. On one hand, you might be thinking: “Of course I care about my company’s mission and values!” As an HR professional, this is music to my ears; our goal is to align employees with a company’s mission and values so we’re all marching “to the same beat of the drum,” so to speak.

Believe There is Good in the World

Wed, 02/28/2018 - 07:00

I want to start off with the fact that I have an odd fascination with t-shirts. Especially ones that make people think, smile, or laugh. It is like being a walking billboard and changing people’s day for the good of the world, not the poorly constructed lives they may be living. That is a very cool feeling. I was in San Francisco for a conference speaking on a dry subject and dreading the fact that, I do in fact suck at public speaking. It’s all good, I am not that great of a writer either, but at least I am not judged as much on that most of the time that is. Anyway, I digress to the shirts. I have quite the collection as you see in the photo below this paragraph and most of them are either recruiting or bar related, yet some are more than that, and that is what this little story is about.
